Was watching Vh1's Most Awesomely Bad #1's Ever last night. Pretty good countdown, makes you wunner why some of the songs ever made it to #1 in the first place. Was not really into it, though, until they hit #8--Kokomo by the Beach Boys. The commentary was spot on as they were talking about how the song is all about tropical locales ('Aruba, Jamaica, ohhhhhh I wanna take ya to Bermuda, Bahama....'). One of the guys was all, 'But they wanna take you to Kokomo? Hey, I looked on the map, and do you know where Kokomo is? In frickin' Indiana! Not exactly paradise!' Besides being totally HILARIOUS, I have to give them props for giving a shout out to my home town Kokomo, IN! And he is right....it is NOT paradise! The only thing Kokomo has going for it is a stump, a cow, and stoplights (it is after all called 'Stoplight City').
For those not in the know--the stump is an actual tree stump of the largest Sycamore in the state (or country, or world: not really sure which, and that sucks cuz now I have to go research! bleah) and the cow is really a bull: the largest in the world at the time of his death in the 60's (?).
PS...Tony Sinclair-the Tanqueray guy- is totally skeevy!
